see-era.net Summer School on Built Environment

We have the pleasure to announce the Summer School on Built Environment, financially supported by the EC Program ERA-NET. The Summer School will be organized in Pamporovo, Bulgaria, in June 07-13 2008.

The Summer School on Build Environment is further development of the program of 2 projects: Annual Int. Course “Ventilation and Indoor Climate” (2001- 2004) and Annual Int. Course “Computational Engineering” (2004-2006) within the “Stability Pact for SE Europe” and financially supported by Germany. A background for the proposed training event is also the long-term research and training collaboration between the partners in the project: CERDECEN, Technical University of Sofia (Bulgaria), LSTM, Friedrich-Alexander University, Erlangen-Nuernberg, (Germany), St. St. Cyril and Methodius University, Skopije, (FYR of Macedonia) and University of Nis, (Serbia).

The Summer School is planned for 5 days (6 nights) with participation of 24 early stage researchers (up to 4 years after B.Sc. or M.Sc. graduation). The eligible participants will follow 30 lectures all together and 2 workshops. All lectures will be published in a Book of Proceedings.

The Program of the course includes 4 different modules and 2 workshops.

The modules and the respective topics are:

The following lectures will be included: Aerodynamic fundamentals of indoor environment; Principles in heat and mass transfer; Basic processes in treatment of humid air; Standardization in IAQ; Thermal comfort and textiles

The following lectures will be included: Fundamentals of ventilation; Natural Ventilation; Mechanical Ventilation; Hybrid Ventilation; Fume cupboards – typical example of local exhaust devices; Factors influencing local exhaust devices effectiveness; Flows in industrial ventilation.

The following lectures will be included: Mathematical modeling; Discretization of RANs equations – Control Volume Method; Algorithms used in CFD; Turbulence modeling; Grid generation; Numerical modeling of thermal comfort and air quality.

The following lectures will be included: How to plan experiments; Measurement of ventilation and ion effectiveness, mean age of air, pollution concentration; Type testing; Commissioning and maintenance testing; Standards in Indoor Environment; Indoor air quality assessment in practice; Thermal environment assessment in practice; Questionnaire studies in research; Indices for room air distribution.

The 24 grants available are foreseen for young researchers from the region of Balkan countries. The grant covers all expenses, namely: travel, hotel accommodation and meals, participation fee and course materials.
